Built Environments, 2023
When working on this project I was thinking about who photography lends itself to and how I am situated with my environment as a person of color in photography.
When taking photos of trees at the Quaking Bog in Minneapolis I knew I had to research more. When researching I was trying to grasp the history within the trees, nature, and the human body and how the environment shapes who you are.
When diving deep into the history of the cinder block I realized it holds a huge amount of historical significance within perpetuating colonialism in a capitalistic culture. When researching I also found many lines of events surrounding environmentalism and social justice that made me ask new questions and create new connections to how many social justice issues are intertwined with each other.
