Within the project, I will make two raised bed hexagon planters that will be placed behind the storage shed area at MCAD. The raised beds will consist of different native plants that will be able to go to seed. I chose the hexagon shape because it symbolizes the reciprocity, balance and harmony of the natural world. The shape is one of the few shapes to be able to fit together on all of its sides. In the natural world the hexagon shape creates structural stability.
In the book, I plan on gathering different native plant seeds and creating packets for them to be stored in the book for students to have the opportunity to use when checking out the book at the library.
Surrounding the hexagon raised beds will be a no mow zone. This will ensure the raised bed’s plants will be able to establish over time outside the bed, eventually creating a small prairie garden. Students will have the opportunity to work with the landscape and also aid this process. By allowing the seeds to spread naturally. Minimizing some of the stressors of maintaining the garden. The garden will be able to develop on its natural course, allowing the space to change throughout time, with the help of the MCAD students

The hexagon project will enable a space for students to engage with the natural world in extensive ways. Students will be able to see the project develop throughout the seasons they are at MCAD. They will be able to enjoy the natural environment of the space for meditation, fun, community building, education, and inspiration for their creative projects and pathways. This book will also be a great resource for educators. They will be able to implement the Hexagon Project within their classroom curriculums. The book will enrich the students with the opportunity to explore, investigate, research, and create their own projects within the garden. Developing MCAD's community connection to the natural world and beyond!
